Koreatown Mixed Use
UCLA/ ARCH & UD 414
Winter 2011
Instructor: Roger Sherman
Koreatown is among the most densely populated neighborhoods in the country. Residents here are less like likely to rely on cars for their commutes than the average Angelino. Unfortunately, Koreatown hosts some of the city’s most heavily trafficked surface street. Since 45% of airborne pollution exposure results from very local traffic conditions, residents of Koreatown bear a disproportionate burden of pollution and related adverse health effects. To remedy this, the residential program was located away from the busiest intersection of the site (Western and Third) which also provides an alternative to the existing pedestrian infrastructure.
